Peter Hoffman.

task five - graphic designer review.

Peter Hoffman.

Peter Hoffmann is the founder of Glashaus Design and a freelance illustrator/graphic designer based in Cologne, Germany.

Not only a wonderful illustrator, typographer and graphic designer, but he is also a tutor for drawing and graphic design at ecodesign/Akademie für Gestaltung in Cologne.

Peter Hoffmans work is a mixture of textured and traditional art. his typography is clean and sharp, his album cover artwork vintage style classics and his illustrations consist of complex colour and fine line.

while Hoffman’s approach to typography seems fairly structured, his illustrative style allows for a lot more freedom of expression.

some of his clients are Gollenstein Verlag, Charleston Magazine, Visions Magazines, Fast Company Magazine, etc.

Scott Campbell.

using imagery commonly associated with tattoos and the current trends like skulls, roses, religious icons, barbed wire, the grim reaper, swallows, swirls and hearts, Scott has skillfully carved out stacks of American dollar bills to create stunning monetary sculptures. others have script phrases such as "Bros Before Hos" and "Thank You Jesus".

Scott Campbell is a tattoo artist and in 2004 he opened Saved Tattoo in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. since then, it has grown to be the east coast's premier tattoo shop with a devout following of celebrity clientele. Campbell has the taken the blue collar grit and lore of tattoo culture and extracted a visual language and wit that are supremely refined and deliberate.

ABSOLUT.

i discovered my favorite advertising campaigns on my now beloved www.foundshit.com.

i like ads that are clever, witty and have been a thought from outside the box. and this is what attracted me.

i personally think that the Absolut Vodka Ad campaigns are the epitome of clever advertising. simple, yet effective, humorous and some even a little bit cheeky. i think 'ABSOLUT genius'.

the term ABSOLUT can be the front of a two word statement to an almost never ending combination. "ABSOLUT _______" can be filled in to meet whatever direction the company wants to take and whichever market they want to target. this idea has lead to the most successful and one of the longest running campaigns.

the ads typically feature the distinctive bottle shape in the centre and the title 'ABSOLUT________" at the bottom.

the ads have been running for over 25 years and comprises over 1500 ads. its gotta be a winner.

found shit.

task two, number two - blog review.... doo doo.

a blog that i came across during my routine search of ffffound.com - WWW.FOUNDSHIT.COM
'found shit' one statement that more or less sums up the whole concept.

this blog compiles an almost never ending collection of interesting, quirky, humorous, satirical, political, parodic and simply visually stimulating images of design, photography, products, advertising and fashion..... and you cant forget the cute puppies, kittens and itty bitty gerbils.

...perhaps this blog tapped into my weakness for everything cute.

this blog held my attention for quite some time. every now and then i would come across a design concept that i found to be simply clever particularly under the 'ads' tag.

a great feature in this blog is that every picture is referenced back to the original artist. most have links so that if you particularly like a style or an idea you can see exactly where it has come from or view the complete body of work or even view the complete advertising campaign or website for further inspiration.

under the 'random reads' section is a list of exactly that - random blogs for your daily dose of diversion.

this is my absolute favorite blog despite its very boring layout. the content compensates for that.

design swan.

task two - blog review.

design swan, a blog that covers a vast selection of design and art fields, all the way from edible art, paper craft, high-tech teapot designs and watermelon carvings to logo designs, product designs, advertisement reviews and much more.

i think that this design blog draws inspiration from the bazaar.

design swan is easy to navigate. everything is categorised and tagged. the page itself is thoughtfully set out and there has been effort put into the book style background. i think this factor is what caught my attention originally as i was sick of flat white backgrounds with the links thrown around everywhere in hideous fonts... and to think that these are design blogs.

i also enjoyed the humorous side links that led me to... 'the 10 funniest moments in 'The Price Is Right' history'....
"come on down!!"

overall i simply found that this site was enjoyable, pleasant to look at, and held some decent information.
